January 13, 2025
YWCA Delaware is proud to welcome John Reed as the new Financial Empowerment Counselor. John brings over 19 years of experience, including 15 years as a real estate agent and four years as a HUD certified housing counselor.
Growing up with a single mother who had type 1 diabetes and was wheelchair bound, John has personally witnessed the impact of financial hardship and systemic challenges on families. These experiences inspired his lifelong dedication to helping others achieve stability.
“I’m passionate about helping clients understand credit, how to problem solve, deal with very difficult issues like bankruptcy,” said Reed. “My goal is to help clients overcome these challenges and find lasting success.”
In his role John will provide personalized, one-on-one counseling sessions to assess clients’ needs, offer home-buying and renting guidance, and assist with mortgage default/foreclosure prevention. He will also work closely with clients on credit improvement and effective financial management strategies.
“John’s expertise will be a tremendous asset to our Financial Empowerment and Homeownership Program, which serves over 200 households each year,” said Candice Buchanan, Chief Programs and Development Officer of YWCA Delaware. “As a HUD counselor, John is committed to helping more women and families gain financial security and brings both skill and compassion to our organization.”
As a father of three and a parent to a child with special needs, John understands the unique challenges families face. He is also a proud grandfather and will celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary this year—a milestone he’s excited to share with both his family and community.
With John Reed on board, YWCA Delaware continues to strengthen its mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
