Community Housing
YWCA Delaware’s Community Housing Program offers a wide range of support to women and families become gainfully employed, permanently housed and completely self-sufficient.
In 2022, YWCA Delaware helped 363 families through its Home-Life Management Center and Community Housing program. 92% of formerly homeless families became self-sufficient and positioned for upward mobility.
Our Home-Life Management Center services cater to the needs of women and families, and include:
Emergency Shelter
Case Management - Clients work intensively with Case Managers to assess their housing and support service needs to determine referral support and chart a course to achieve specific goals.
Life Skills Workshops - Parenting, Money Management, Anger & Conflict Management, Self-Esteem, Substance Abuse Prevention and Health & Wellness
Custodial Training - Offers hands-on instructional experience in household cleaning principles, grounds keeping and minor property maintenance and repair.
Culinary Training - Teaches how to efficiently function and operate equipment in a commercial-grade kitchen along with nutritional training, meal planning, food shopping and meal preparation.
Domestic Violence Case Management - Survivors of domestic violence receive safety education, individual and group counseling and matched savings programs to help break the cycle of violence.
Urban Agriculture - YWCA’s New Beginnings Garden provides a source of nutritious food and hands-on educational resources on organic gardening practices.
People’s Pantry - Thanks to the generous support of Delaware First Health, the Delaware Food Bank, the Delaware Division of Public Health, and Washington Campbell Farming LLC, this service provides healthy supplemental food to individuals enrolled in our emergency and transitional housing programs.

“SCHE” Joint Transitional Housing & Rapid Re-Housing program
YWCA Delaware’s “SCHE” (Safe, Compassion, Heal, Empower) Joint Transitional Housing and Rapid Re-Housing program offers survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence with personalized service plans and resources to achieve housing stability. YWCA works to rapidly re-house homeless women and families and provides financial assistance, comprehensive case management, and support services to assist women and families in becoming economically and residentially stable and self-sufficient in permanent housing.
Services may include but are not limited to community housing, case management, access to food, wellness and nutrition workshops, and clothing, workforce readiness training, medical/legal accompaniment, financial housing assistance, financial coaching, therapeutic services, access to legal, medical and mental health services, and transportation services.
YW assists in developing tailored Housing Service Plans that offer financial resources and internal/external support services, including searching for safe and affordable housing, employment, life skills and enrichment training, and participating in state-sponsored training programs. RRH participants also receive evaluations for benefits and housing, including purchase of care – early childhood and after-school education, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicare, and SNAP.
“SCHE” Joint Transitional and Rapid Re-Housing program participants are responsible for contributing financially to their households while maintaining continued access to YW’s support services.
YWCA’s Diversion program prevents homelessness for families
YWCA Delaware’s Diversion program prevents homelessness for families by assisting them to identify alternate housing arrangements that diverts them from entering the homeless management system. Case management and financial assistance is available for up to 3 months to support families so they can retain stable housing and eliminate episodes of homelessness. YWCA Delaware helps bridge support for landlords and tenants by:
Identifying matching participants with landlords
Creating, implementing and monitoring a plan of financial supportive services designed to help tenants succeed
24/7 tenant/landlord mediation

Avoiding Mortgage Default
If you are behind in your mortgage payments and need help navigating your way back on track, we are here to help. We understand that anything can cause you to experience a loss of income, such as job loss, illness, death, etc. We offer several options to help you get back on your feet and save your home from foreclosure. Download our intake packet, complete the required paperwork and submit all of your documents to our Intake Specialist to receive expert advice and assistance from a housing counselor. No incomplete packets will be accepted, so please refer to the included checklist.
