Pamper-Me Day: Home-Life Participants Take a Much-Needed Break to De-stress and Unwind
Our first-ever Pamper-Me Day was everything we needed to hit pause and find some peace after a busy work week. For the moms in our emergency and transitional housing programs, it was a rare chance to relax and recharge with a babysitter on hand to keep the little ones entertained.
As soft neo-soul beats played in the background, the air was filled with positive vibes only. One by one, women took turns reading aloud affirmations that lifted their spirits and brought a sense of calm to the room. Clients enjoyed sparkling apple cider and grapes while YWCA Delaware's Family Service Support Manager, Valerie Edwards, introduced us to the art of paper floristry and reminded us that you don't need much to bring some color and joy into your space. Before long, the room was popping with color from our paper creations. Every participant received a gift basket filled with specialty lotions and soaps and was invited to pick out pieces of jewelry from Valerie's collection, including beautiful, beaded designs handcrafted by the "Beading Babes" at the First Unitarian Church of Wilmington.
This hour of calm and creativity provided a much-needed break for our clients and fostered a sense of community and empowerment, reminding them that even in the face of life's challenges, they are deserving of moments of peace, joy, and self-care.
If you or someone you know is interested in donating materials for our next Pamper Me Day event, please email Valerie Edwards at Vaedwards@ywcade.org.
